Deuteronomy Encourage Children Learn

Deuteronomy or exam at school was not only useful to determine the student's academic progress chart. Moreover, the repetition also helps children improve skills.

Exam at the school may still be a scourge for the kids at school. Hearing these words, as if the child is "dead bug" and shiver in fear. However, tests have proven positive aspect class that can help students' academic progress.

Recent research shows that daily tests proved to help students learn better than letting them learn on their own before the final exam.

According to research published in the journal Science on Friday (15/10), in addition can be used to assess student understanding, repetition can also help them to remember more easily.

"It would be nice if there were more tests in the classroom, especially if the students make their own tests when they learn," said researchers from Kent State University, Ohio, United States, as reported by Mary Pyc page Live Science.

Although many people view the replay is used as a way to mark and see the progress of students in the classroom, recent research found that the act of retrieving information from memory brain actually make a person more easily remember.

In other words, the test improve the learning process. The mechanism behind this increase is still unknown.

In the study, Pyc and his colleague, Katherine Rawson, investigating a piece of information called a "mediator". The mediator is a concept, idea, or phrase that links one part of the information with others. To become a good mediator, an idea must be easy to remember and easy to connect to the information you're trying to capture.

To investigate the effects of testing on the mediator, Pyc and Rawson use the 118 students who are accustomed to speak English to learn 48 words in Swahili. In this case, the mediator of English words will help students to connect the Swahili word for its meaning in English.

For example, someone who tries to learn the word "wingu," which means "cloud" in Swahili, probably chose the word "wings" as a mediator.

If the participant recalled the wing, he can think of birds flying in the clouds, which will lead them into the English translation. Several students were asked to learn the words, repeat, new end take the test.

Others are asked to learn on their own and immediately following the final test. A week after learning these words, each group following the final exam.

Test material that is answered in English translation from the Swahili word. The other group received the tests give them a Swahili word plus the mediators that they will use to learn the words.

The third group not only have to translate words, but they also have to remember and write down their mediators said. Overall, the group that followed the test before the final test score three times better than those who learn on their own.

The results are similar to previous studies that found benefits behind the daily tests. Also, do many tests or tests can make a better mediator. Participants who had given them both a mediator and the translation gets an average score of 51% if they enter the group that runs the test and only 34% if they just learn on their own.

Students who do not have to remember they are only mediators directly related to the translation, nor does it much better if they complete a test.

"The mediators are more likely to test cause and faster to remember back and get the answer you want," said Pyc.

Apparently succeeded in remembering words in a mediator during the daily tests, proven to help strengthen students' memories. A person also can customize their mediators words during the test, discard the unnecessary, and fix the new prior to the final exam.

"Their basic point in the case-review-exam benefits you will get information on whether your mediator is effective or not. I think the evidence is quite convincing researchers. In this case, the basic argument is quite convincing, "said Robert Bjork, from the University of California, Los Angeles, United States, a psychologist who was not involved in this research.

Bjork said that it was time for schools and students to begin translating this research into the curriculum and study habits.
